Good news! The cardiologist said it was a false positive on Jim's dye test and that his stents are clean and clear and he did NOT NEED his stents replaced nor another one put in! The Dr said things look good for Jim and the heart medications he is on seem to be working well for him! So after his heart attack 5 years ago and subsequent problem a year later, he is doing well! I was able to bring him home late afternoon and he is resting comfortably! We are both so thankful for the good outcome! Thanks for all the positive thoughts and prayers for him! A happy story of a 129ther!

"the rumps under the bridge at the end of town". Mark that made me remember HS....We would drive to Zanesville and drink beer and smoke under the "famous Y bridge" in Z-Ville......That was before I-70 was built. We`d take US 40 East......That was a all-nighter.....We would play 8-track tapes, and listen to the Doors "Light My Fire", Racals "Groovin", CCR "Suzie-Q"........and drive home to Columbus at daybreak listening to Bob Seger.."2+2(Is On My Mind)......

Hi Flight. Got back about 2am this morning from Virginia and seeing my Brother. He was in good spirits and looked good. He's still eating good, but is real wobbly when he gets up. Using a cane to get around the house, and gets mad as hell when he can't remember what he wanted to say. We had a good visit and I was glad I went down to see him while he is still alert and knows everyone. About a 1300 mile round trip in two days. Sorry to hear that Ray is back in the hospital. I talked to him just before I left and he said he was sore. Kris and Gail, hang in there and thanks for the updates....Rob

ATTENTION, LINE UP EVERYBODY..........that's correct. Line up everybody for the NEW addition to the web site. Soon there will be a link to a MUSIC page that you will be able to click onto and have the sounds of over 1,000 songs ( I quite counting ) of the Vietnam Era. The site is awesome. I made contact with the outfit last night and they granted permission for us to have the link on the page. You can click on the site. Fire up the song you want to hear and still go to any link on our page or actually anywhere on the night with the music still playing if you like. You just have to minimize the page. I am sure that you will enjoy the blast into the past. I want to make this DISCLAIMER though. I will not be responsible for any "FLASHBACKS" that accrue. Including ones from Vietnam, the back seat of the mustang, the last row in the movie theater, the rumps under the bridge at the end of town. Oh yeah, and that includes skinny dip-pin' in the ole' Swim-min' hole too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gang, Just got back from an 8 day hospital stay. Back surgery, But you can’t just go in for that, Bad things start to happen more doctors get involved, Heart starts dancing to another beat. More doctors start practicing. A morphine drip doesn’t get pulled Pills are added, Along with more doctors. The mind can be a terrible thing let to bounce around unchecked. They though I wasn’t coming back. Then I remember them starting asking what was my name, what year was it, It came to Me that I had possibly screwed these, and other questions up badly in the recent past.

Just a caution, if you don't want to get deluged by the mugu's, doctor your email addy if you need to post it............Jeff, we wore the cobra ( and other platoon patches) until mid 71. There was a lot of unauthorized patches being worn: black power, puerto rico, etc. and the post commander decided that the best way to get rid of them was to eliminate ALL of them!!!! The best protest was Mr. Lovejoy, who just tore the middle out of his, and left the outside sections on his uniform. We had spare patches made up at cheap charlies, and wore them when we were outside of Lane. .....Mark, the only thing wrong with the Dunesbury clip is the irony that a comic strip has to bring to light a very real response to being wounded, and the way our government deals with it. Don't worry about B.D., he's a survivor.

Hi Guys The legend about the cobra patch is true. The patches that we had when I joined the Gun Platoon were actual Shelby Cobra patches that we took the word "Shelby" off and added "129th" in its place. In early 68 I wrote the Shelby company and asks them to send us some more patches. I think I asks for 2 or three dozen. They sent 18 patches. I don't remember anyone asking for any more while I was there. We would leave our old patches when we left country for the new guys. I took one set of jungle fatigues home with a patch on it. We flew in Jungle fatigues and did not recieve nomex until very late in my first tour. I don't remember every wearing nomax and I left country in August of 68. Jeff Lashbrook Cobra Cardinal 67-68

My company, Flight 33 Productions, is currently producing the second season of "Shootout" for the History Channel. "Shootout" is an hour-long, 13-episode documentary series that depicts the bravery and heroism of US Marines, Navy, and Army from World War II to the present. This season, one episode will be dedicated to Tet Offensive. I would like to ask for your assistance in finding men and women who would be willing to be interviewed for this program. In short, we are looking for Vietnam veterans (both men and women), who were involved in firefights, shootouts & close combat. I want to assure you that this documentary series will show the veterans in a positive light, focusing on their honor & dedication that they demonstrated during their time of duty. Please let me know if you need any additional information about our project. I would be more than happy to send you a copy of one of our last season's episodes for you to look over. Thank you, I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Brittany Graham bg@flight33.tv 818.505.6640 x138

The test showed a questionable area so he goes in for an angiogram the 28th and possible stent. Wink.....Someone said that The Cobra`s actually ask permission or was granted permission by performance car icon Carroll Shelby, to use the Cobra insignia on all related cards and patches.....maybe that is folklore, but I remember someone posted that on the web-site here.....it was some sort copyright problem and Mr. Shelby was contacted and gave The Cobra`s the right to use the logo.....

I have one, given to me by Ron Paye. You guys want one, maybe he has extras, not sure.Guess I should take mine out of my wallet, its getting "used".In small letters acros the top ,it says( in 3 lines and capitol letters)) " You have just been Pacified...compliments of the 129th Cobras...Call us for Death and Destruction Night or Day". The dots indicate a change in line. then in bold letters in the middle of the card,it says "You Call We Kill" with an up right cobra snake ,ready to strike,in the exact middle of the card with COBRAS written underneath it.and in small print around the base of the coiled cobra,it says "129th AHC. In the bottom right hand corner it says ,in small print..Your Local Representives (enough space left for a name). In the bottom left hand corner it says "for the best guns...Call Anson R.V.N.- 152. the color of the card in kinda a cream off white, black letters with the cobra being an "OD" green or light brown. The Cobra looks just like the one found on Ford mustang cars.I suppose I could inquire into having more of these made up...will have to ask Ron paye if he has a supply,if not, then I will do.

CO. with the Bite and Strike...The knock-offs say; 129th Aviation CO. and of course the Bite and Strike....Jip-Joint Charlie sold those.....there`s one on e-bay now....But I did look at the calling card and it`s real Mark.......It would be better off in one of OUR hands than some collector.

Fred S. I bought a 129th patch off of e-bay last year. Thinking it was an old one that a 129th was sellin' Won the bids and got the patch and it was a brand new one freshly made and it came from Vietnam. I assume that they are still making money off of GI's that way. Beware of what is for sale on e-bay. Not all might be original. This calling card may be, but not all things are........can you scan the image of the card you have and send it to me?.........always a brother.................

I had a photo of Larry and some others, and ROKs, looking over a cache of weapons that had been rounded up from some of the enemy. With a magnifying glass I could read the name of one of the 129th'ers on his pocket. I ran a search for him and found him and talked to him about 7 years ago.............I just got off the phone with him again because the guy that the other guy is looking for is him............................permission was given to pass on his phone number..........................SO LONG AGO...................SO RIGHT NOW..............CP, the old contact said he knew you and I think he said he has talked to you since being back................He says that he gets on the web page couple times a week. Ray, if you are talking about the bruising on your upper thigh where the catheter was put in, at the time they do that the blood flow in the femoral artery ( the big one in your leg) has a lot of pressure & will leak blood into the surrounding tissue. The big Blue bruise will be there a while & slowly turn yellow & then finally go away. Do you have a Drs appointment Friday??? if it begins to bleed outside i of course would get to the emergency room but it sounds fairly normal to me. You Can e mail me straight at westwang@bresnan.net, Phone is (307) 672-8704. Fred S. I hope things are settling down for you. It sounds like they are. God be with you & yours>>> deepest respects>>> Smitty

OH Yea Mark....Now that`s what I love, Sweet Blues with a dash of jazz.....You got mind right....Well not much to really say Mark or share about Amanda`s death...Family still stands by Grandma Gert, she had been in a manic depressive state since the death of her husband a few years back. MOF...she had a appointment to see the doctor that Friday....she never made it that long....It`s Kim`s family, I just listen to what they have to say.....I went to the viewing and realized this was a young lady that was much loved by all....Kim and her mom went to the funeral....Jim(my father-in-law) and I, we stayed back at home. The crowd was huge and just packed wall to wall at the viewing.....so Jim and I just spent quality time between " two old guys" kickin around the farm.....We pretty much picked a spot on the Little Sandusky River, that runs through the farm, and sit there and talked about "coming back home" to Ohio......He`ll deed me and Kim the land to build a modest little home...right there on the banks of the river...with lots of shade trees. Funny how much Jim and I have in common ...now that I`m older......Thanks for the prayers Mark........But I could really get into sittin on the front porch, of a house, with the river flowing by, and diggin some good blues comin out of the speakers......I got to have speakers and acoustics, just can`t do that I-Pod thing.......Later.....

Ray, i'm glad you are doing ok. I have been praying for you. I have the bypasses but the "stent" procedure is udes a lot. I found this at the AMA & copied it for you>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Stent Procedure What is a stent and how is one used? A stent is a wire mesh tube used to prop open an artery during angioplasty. The stent is collapsed to a small diameter and put over a balloon catheter. It's then moved into the area of the blockage. When the balloon is inflated, the stent expands, locks in place and forms a scaffold. This holds the artery open. The stent stays in the artery permanently, holds it open, improves blood flow to the heart muscle and relieves symptoms (usually chest pain). When are stents used? Stents are used depending on certain features of the artery blockage. This includes the size of the artery and where the blockage is. Stenting is a fairly common procedure; in fact, it now represents 70-90 percent of procedures.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Please note it says permanently. Hope this helps>>>>> Smitty

Sorry about the confusion.....Brian is the youngest son of my mother-in-laws, youngest brother. For some reason I was thinking, Coldwater was in Hardin County. It`s Mercer county.....I thought it was local news for Marks area...But still very upsetting, because we seen Brian and Amanda at Xmas time this year at a family gathering. I can remember Brian, when he was just 4 years old........My mother-in-law was really pushing getting "family photos" taken together this year when we were home in Ohio...She had mention that we were getting older and some might not be here next year....It`s just so ironic that this would happen.....

Grandmother charged with shootings; 1 fatal Friday, February 17, 2006 Matthew Marx THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH A 68-year-old woman is accused of killing her granddaughter and wounding the young woman’s husband before crashing her car in Hardin County yesterday afternoon. Gertrude Simpkins, of La Rue in Marion County, was in the Multi-County Correctional Center in Marion, charged with one count each of murder and felonious assault. The double shooting occurred at 4:29 p.m. yesterday at the home of Amanda and Brian Corbin, both 26, in the western Marion County town of La Rue, about 60 miles northwest of Columbus. Brian Corbin came home from work to find his wife shot to death inside the house on LaRue-Richwood Road, the Marion County sheriff’s office reported. Simpkins, who is Amanda Corbin’s grandmother, then shot him, the sheriff’s office said. Amanda Corbin was pronounced dead at the scene. Brian Corbin was taken to Marion General Hospital, then flown by helicopter to Grant Medical Center in Columbus, where he was in serious condition late last night, a nursing supervisor reported. Marion County Chief Deputy Al Hayden said it is unknown why Simpkins shot them.........................................................................................................Brian is my mother-in-law, brother son.....this stuff is to wild

Hey Bernie. Sorry Bro. I had some bug in the soup. I couldn't logged in. It kept disconnecting. So my son took the tower & did some trouble shooting. Anyway, I'm back on line today. Man it was 91 degrees here yesterday. I can't believe it. I don't want to know how hot it's going to be this summer. I was checking the mail- man o man Lam Son 719. I got to Camp Evans about a month or so after that. I was quiet in I corps after that. They used rockets & 37 MM. The fire bases were nasty. I got to fly to FSB Fuller. Man the LZ and I mean just had enough clearance for the rotor blades. To take off you would bring the slick to a hover, go forward on the cyclic & you were already 2000 ft in the air. The cliffs were full of trash. The troops dumped the trash over the side of the cliffs & the stench was bad in the heat. Its been so long, I don't recall exactly where Fuller was. All I recall it was west of Camp Evans . I guessing it was somewhere toward the Rockpile. Mark who is the cook. Man is that what I think-S.O.S.? Its been eons. Thanks to everyone for the kind words. I know alot of you have been through this and more and still you go on. I guess it's what we're supposed to do. We grieve and then keep them in our thoughts after they are gone, and we continue with life. I think I believe now that dying is just a part of life. It just happens to be the part at the end. Being born was at the beginning of life and the rest just blurrs by in what seems all too short to me. And then you're gone. Ray, I got your phone message. Thanks and I'll be talking to you.....Rob

ROBBIE, Mine and Jeans' love and sorrow go out to you and the family..... I understand and feel your brothers feelings about his "quality of life"...... I have a sister thats in a nursing home, invalid for the past 3 1/2 years..... Flat on her back with only the use of her right arm, and its weakening slowly........ She has told me that she wishes she had "gone on" instead of this lingering...... I'm on her side, but her daughter refused to let her go, so she hangs in there, for her daughter........ I went through this before when I had to "Pull the Plug", on my mother who had a heart attack and was on life support....... Jean says to tell you that she has lost her Mother, Father, two brothers, and now, in just the last few months, an older sister and a younger sister, and to let you know, "You will get through it, slowly, but you will get through it"... Bless his soul....... It sounds like you understand his feelings, and believe me, you will feel better later about honoring his wishes....... It will be tough for awhile, and of course you'll miss him, but you''ll see it was the right thing to do...... Some of the family may disagree and seem to turn on you for it, but it is your brothers decision, so they should support him...... Maybe they won't, but that is their cross to bear, not yours...... I trust you and feel you're making the right decision, supporting his wishes....... May GOD Bless him, You, and all the family....... ktf, Your friend, and fellow crew member....... C.P. (Poppasan) 129th, May 69- Apr 70....

Just A Common Soldier..... by A. Lawrence Vaincourt..... "He was getting old and paunchy and his hair was falling fast,...... And he sat around the Legion, telling stories of the past....... Of a war that he had fought in and the deeds that he had done,....... In his exploits with his buddies; they were heroes, every one........ And tho' sometimes, to his neighbors, his tales became a joke,....... All his Legion buddies listened, for they knew whereof he spoke...... But we'll hear his tales no longer for old Bill has passed away,..... And the world's a little poorer, for a soldier died today............ He will not be mourned by many, just his children and his wife,...... For he lived an ordinary and quite uneventful life........... Held a job and raised a family, quietly going his own way,....... And the world won't note his passing, though a soldier died today....... When politicians leave this earth, their bodies lie in state,........ While thousands note their passing and proclaim that they were great.......... Papers tell their whole life stories, from the time that they were young,...... But the passing of a soldier goes unnoticed and unsung......... Is the greatest contribution to the welfare of our land......... A guy who breaks his promises and cons his fellow man?.......... Or the ordinary fellow who, in times of war and strife,......... Goes off to serve his Country and offers up his life?........... A politician's stipend and the style in which he lives.......... Are sometimes disproportionate to the service that he gives..... While the ordinary soldier, who offered up his all,......... Is paid off with a medal and perhaps, a pension small........ It's so easy to forget them for it was so long ago.......... That the old Bills of our Country went to battle, but we know....... It was not the politicians, with their compromise and ploys,........ Who won for us the freedom that our Country now enjoys............ Should you find yourself in danger, with your enemies at hand,........ Would you want a politician with his ever-shifting stand?......... Or would you prefer a soldier, who has sworn to defend.......... His home, his kin and Country and would fight until the end? ......... He was just a common soldier and his ranks are growing thin,.......... But his presence should remind us we may need his like again.......... For when countries are in conflict, then we find the soldier's part....... Is to clean up all the troubles that the politicians start............ If we cannot do him honor while he's here to hear the praise,......... Then at least let's give him homage at the ending of his days......... Perhaps just a simple headline in a paper that would say,......... Our Country is in mourning, for a soldier died today.

To all who have said prayers for my Brother during the past few years, I thank you. He is at the point where his cancer count has gone way up and when the dr's tried to give him more Chemo, he gets violently sick. He has decided that is no way for him to live his time out so he has stopped the treatments. I really didn't want him to stop the treatments, but respect his wishes. I'll probably have to make the same decision some day. He is in a Hospice situation now and good people are coming in to make sure he is getting proper medication etc to make him comfortable. My Mother and other Brother and cousin and I were going to drive down this past weekend to see him, but the bad weather on the East coast took care of that. So we are now going down the weekend of the 25th to see him. Hopefully the weather will cooperate this time. I'm not ready for him to go, but figure I never will be so I've kind of come to grips with the situation. I hope everyone else is doing ok. Again, thanks for the prayers and thoughts......Rob

We Came to Nam by Rich Reith We came to Nam From all corners of the world, Filled with piss and vinegar, Bravado and braggadocio. We came to Nam From farms and ghettos, Cities and villages, Different countries and cultures. About to be bonded In ways we couldn?t imagine. We came to Nam Young believers. Ready to beat the world. They never told us The world was ready for us. With hormones oozing from every pore, We wouldn?t have listened anyway. We came to Nam Teenagers and twenty-somethings, Mature and immature, Married and single-wild. Giving up our precious youth, To a cause they said was right, Never understanding what we were giving up. We endured. Somehow, we endured. Through hours of boredom And moments of terror We endured. We left Nam Different than those who came. Bonded forever With people we never knew. For we had all been to the mountaintop Different mountains, Different heights, Same view Of Satan?s promised land. We left Nam To move into the future. Some, with eyes facing forward Hopeful, determined Thankful for the gift of life. Some moving forward By walking backwards, Eyes firmly focused On those seminal events That would forever define their lives. For them, Nam won.

Here is a news scoop on what Fred is talking about.............................................. IMMEDIATE RELEASE No. 136-06 February 14, 2006 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Army MIA Soldiers from Vietnam War Identified The Department of Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office (DPMO) announced today that the remains of four U.S. servicemen, missing in action since the Vietnam War, have been identified. They will be returned to their families for burial with full military honors. They are: Maj. Jack L. Barker of Waycross, Ga.; Capt. John F. Dugan of Roselle, N.J.; Sgt. William E. Dillender of Naples, Fla.; and Pfc. John J. Chubb of Gardena, Calif. All were from the Army’s 101st Airborne Division. Chubb will be buried in Inglewood, Calif., on Feb. 18. Barker, Dugan and Dillender will be buried on April 12 in Arlington National Cemetery near Washington. D.C. On March 20, 1971, Barker and Dugan were piloting a UH-1H Huey helicopter with Dillender and Chubb on board. The aircraft was participating in a troop extraction mission in the Savannakhet Province of Laos. As the helicopter approached the landing zone, it was hit by heavy enemy ground fire. It exploded in the air and there were no survivors. Continued enemy activity in the area prevented any recovery attempts. A refugee in Nakhon Phanom, Thailand, showed an identification tag of Pfc. Chubb and a medallion to a U.S. interviewer in 1986. The medallion was reportedly recovered near the same general location from an F-105 crash site. However, the location and the aircraft type did not correlate with the missing aircraft and soldiers. Between 1988 and 2001, joint U.S.-Lao People’s Democratic Republic teams, led by the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC), conducted four investigations and three excavations for these soldiers without positive results. An investigation team surveyed three crash sites in 2002 after interviewing local villagers from the province. The team recovered a fragment of human tooth and some crew-related artifacts from one of the crash sites. In October and November 2004, another joint investigation team excavated the crash site and recovered additional human remains and crew-related evidence. The wreckage was of a UH-1H helicopter, and contained insignia worn by members of the 101st Airborne Division. The remains included nine fragments of teeth that the forensic anthropologists at JPAC were able to match with detailed information from medical and dental records. From the Vietnam War, 1,807 Americans are still unaccounted-for with 364 of those from Laos. Another 839 have been accounted-for in Southeast Asia with 208 of those from losses in Laos. For additional information on the Defense Department’s mission to account for missing Americans, visit the DPMO Web site at http://www.dtic.mil/dpmo or call (703) 699-1169.

To the Great White Hunter Dick Cheney.........I always will remember....... 'Twas a year ago November..... I went out to hunt some deer....... On a morning bright and clear...... I went and shot the maximum the game laws would allow:...... Two game wardens, seven hunters, and a cow........... I was in no mood to trifle,......... I took down my trusty rifle......... And went out to stalk my prey........ What a haul I made that day!......... I tied them to my fender, and I drove them home somehow:....... Two game wardens, seven hunters, and a cow......... The law was very firm, it........ Took away my permit,.......... The worst punishment I ever endured.......... It turned out there was a reason,.......... Cows were out of season,......... And one of the hunters wasn't insured......... People ask me how I do it,........ And I say "There's nothin' to it,......... You just stand there lookin' cute,........ And when something moves, you shoot!"....... And there's ten stuffed heads in my trophy room right now:......... Two game wardens, seven hunters, and a pure-bred Guernsey cow.

Fred Alvis: Don't give up on the PTSD. I am gathering information on the 129th with help of Rick England. What the VA wants to see is combat incidents. And a statement on how it has affected your life. All Ptsd treatments and Vet center appointments and meetings should be included. The more info you have the better. And get the DVA rep. involded to help you with your claim. I had Cinda from the VHCMA send Rick England a study that was done on the hraring at Fort Rucker in 1983, and how the hearing loss of people whom worked or flew . Any way I or Rick can help. Sorry to hear it Alvis. You've heard it before and will hear it again: Keep trying, they are trying to wear you down. When you do get your claim approved, it's retroactive from the day you applied. Also, if you are filing it yourself, you are doing yourself a disservice. Get a rep from the Vet Center, or the DAV to help you with the paperwork. They know exactly what to say. They do it all the time, and when the dickhead bean counters see a vet has an advocate helping with his application, they are more likely to approve it...............Fred S.....That sounds familiar, but I can't place it, help me out buddy......Greg

What is that guys name Mark?....He uses the same "style' of playing that Stanley Jordan uses...Leo Kottke also plays a little of that style also...Good Stuff...As soon as the weather gets warm, my boss and I are going over to NYC and see Les Paul at the Iridium Jazz Club. He plays every Monday night.....He`s 90 years old...They say all kinds of famous guitarist will drop in and "jam" with Les.......

Rick, I don't know about daily reports, but I got my flight records from the V.A. by filling out and submitting the standard request for doc.s form available at your Vet Center. The staff there should be happy to help you out. Flight records, for me, were helpful in establishing periods that I was grounded by the flight surgeon for ear problems. They also establish the frequency you flew combat. Good Luck, Greg

Good Afternoon Flight. While reading my VVA Veteran magazine today I saw an article about Angel Fire becoming a State Park. Thought I would type the brief article about it here........In a Veterans Day ceremony conducted 34 years after it's founding, the Angel Fire National Vietnam Veterans Memorial became a New Mexico state park....In addition to ending long years of continual worries about funding and the memorial's survival, New Mexico state officials said the designation makes Angel Fire the first such state park in the nation solely dedicated to Vietnam veterans....The New Mexico legislature approiated $100,000 to operate the park through June 2006 and the state intends to invest an additional $800,00 into further upgrades next year. Once those upgrades are completed, state park officials said they will request and additional $900,000 for other improvements....Dedicated in 1971 the memorial was built by the late Victor Westphall to honor his son, David, a Marine Corps officer killed in ambush in 1968 with 12 other marines. Through the years that Westphall struggled to maintain the memorial's viability, thousands of veterans found their way to Angel Fire and to Westphall, who soon earned a reputation for opening his arms to every veteran as much as he would have done for his own son.....The most prominent feature of the memorial is a white chapel, a winged structure sweeping upward from a hill overlooking the Moreno Valley in the mountains of northern New Mexico. The memorial also features a 6,000 square foot visitors center, a permanently mounted Huey helicopter, and a memorial garden......
