Well Hello everyone. We are all moved in with my grandparents. I wish I could say it has been smooth but that would be a lie, big time lie. My grandpa is a stubburn ol thing. Good thing I am just the same though. Been about a week and a half I figure. With all the cooking i have been doing for him he is acting more civil. Found some paper in the basement about my uncle that I need to go through. I think its mainly medical records but I shall see. Thats all on this end, need to go stir the stew(supposed to be in the very high 90's and they wanted stew, smells good anyway.) The link on my name is to a picture I took last night at sunset. The best thing about my new digs.

cp, thank you for the concern and nice words.I have to say you havent posted anything that has angered me or anything I disagree with. I read your post with interest. You have as much right in here as I do, as any of us do. The biggest mistake ( I feel) that I have ever made in here was to bring politics in here one day.I was very upset about one of the candidates and it just bubbled over into here.I set off a firestorm of controversy and unfortunatily a few dropped out of the site.I was very wrong to do thatand its I, not you , that needs to apoligise to those in here, which I do.And Cp,writting this with a bit of humorous gleam in my eye,I can indeed,at times, be a stinker. When I see you, I will buy you a beer(or two) and we will laugh together.

FRED ALVIS, PLEASE FORGIVE ME IF I CAME ACROSS INSINUATING YOU ARE BELIGERENT.. I MEAN NO DISRESPECT TO YOU WHATSOEVER!!!! I WANTED YOU TO KNOW THAT I BELIEVE YOU ARE AN IMPORTANT PART OF THE SITE, AND THAT YOUR WRITING IS A GREAT WAY OF EXPRESSING FEELINGS THAT MANY OF US HAVE, AND OBVIOUSLY I SAID IT IN A WRONG WAY.... IF I THOUGHT YOU WERE A PROBLEM, I WOULD NOT HAVE ADDRESSED YOU OR TRYED TO COMPLIMENT YOU... I PUBLICLY APOLIGISE TO YOU FOR ANY MISUNDERSTANDING....... KTF, C.P. BLOOMFIELD

cp, your the second one I know of that has said they must be careful what they say to me. Folks, sorry if I come across as a beligerent. I truely dont mean to.I suppose that when I come in here,my felling are pretty close to the surface, I dont have to hide them, you guys been there done that.I truely hope I havent hurt anyone or just as importantly, supressed anyones thoughts or writtings. That isnt my purpose, right,or biz. to do so.At times, like many in here, I come into this site when feeling down, happy, or when something is bothering me( from the outside world). It helps me to express myself, get it off my chest, think aloud, sort of speak. This site is a haven to me sometimes when lifes dark grey storm clouds are blowing thru.I have enjoyed meeting many of you,a few I have had in my home.I, like many in here, consider this place ,family. To me ,this place is warm, loving and at times, soul soothing. As the book says, "we went to war, but lost our peace".Thats something many of us are still trying to find, our peace. You new folks, welcome to the site, the brotherhood, the friendship, the sharing. Our fallen are not forgotten here, for they are here with us.

Friends, I just got through going through every picture in the "Gallery." Again. Saw you C.P.!! I smiled and laughed so many times. Yes, there were also moments of sadness, but that was ok, there had to be. My point? If you haven't been to the "Gallery" for awhile, go back. If you haven't been there at all-it's a must! We are so blessed to have the "Gallery" and Markie Mark, can't say enough my friend. If any of you have photos please send them in so Mark can add them to the site (as you feel you can Mark). But sadly, there are many photos without names:let's try to give every person in our "Gallery" a name. With every new 129er the chances increase that you can do that-and for the rest of you, everytime you visit the "Gallery" a name might return. Love to all-Gently C.P., always a pleasure to read your words.

Hello Brothers and Sisters of the 129th!!.. First off.. Diane Strothers Moy, I tried to find your phone on the contacts page but had no luck.. please send me your phone # and best times to call. I have info for you. Mark, people and situations change over time and I'd be willing to bet your interactions with your father will be much easier this time around. I really hope everything works out and your outlook gets up to where it should be.. Thanks for everything Brother!!. Robbie, I sure hope the can help your brother!.. I know last Septembe they had gotten my brothers Lulemia fixed and found a spot on his lung. Well, it didn't take long for that spot to do him in. I just hope they can help your brother!!.. Alex, sorry to hear the haven't found your problem yet but finding a "mass" must mean they are making headway. As I said B4, it is government related and that takes time!!.. I know there are lots going on out there and too many things to coment on and keep this short but I just got home from a short vacation and had a ball, or my grand-daughter did.. I got a few things to do so will clear for now. Take care and think San Antonio!!! Kal...>>>

C.P. good to see a post from you. It was great seeing you again at the Pop-A-Top after so many years. I also had a great trust in most of the PILOTS that i flew with in the 129th. When we started teaching some Koreans to fly I started getting nervous and even quit for 1 week after a bad resupply mission on the Matterhorn. That week dragged on so slow that It seemed like a month. I went back to flying the next week and all was good then. Hope everyone is doing good. Jim O. i'll call you tonight. Thanks, Rob

DON, GENTLY, ALVIS, AND ALL OF YOU,... THANK YOU FOR ALL THE SUPPORT YOU GIVE..... C.P. BLOOMFIELD HERE.... THANK YOU ALL...... I'VE SEEN YOUR RECENT POSTS ON THE 129TH FLIGHT LOG, AND STRONG MEMORIES/THOUGHTS/FEELINGS STARTED STIRRING UP IN ME...... I FELT I SHOULD THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR WONDERFUL SUPPORTING COMMENTS AND TO LET YOU KNOW THAT EVEN THOUGH THE COMMENTS ARE NOT DIRECTED TO ME, THEY DO MEAN SOMETHING TO ME, AND I'M SURE TO OTHERS AS WELL........ ............ HOPFULLY, I'M NOT TAKING ANYTHING OUT OF CONTEXT WHERE MISUNDERSTANDING CAN TAKE PLACE ....... ........... ............ FIRST DON...... I QUOTE YOU: "MARK JACKSON, HE IS MY BROTHER AND MY FRIEND", UNQUOTE..... YOU HAVE MADE IT CLEAR THAT YOU APPRECIATE WHAT MARK HAS DONE FOR US........ YOU'VE ALSO MADE IT CLEAR THAT YOU WILL STAND UP FOR HIM IF ANYONE BADMOUTHS HIM..... ANOTHER QUOTE; "TAKE IT EASY ON HIM, HE HAS DONE GREAT THINGS FOR THE 129TH" UNQUOTE..... YOU ARE HELPING US REALIZE THAT WE SHOULD UNDERSTAND THAT ALTHOUGH WE HAVE PUT MARK UP ON A PEDESTAL FOR EVERYTHING HE'S DONE FOR US, HE IS STILL ONLY HUMAN AND IS TRYING, LIKE WE ALL ARE, TO PUT "IT" ALL TOGETHER FOR A HAPPY LIFE... (WHATEVER "IT" IS).. WE HAVE ALL HAD PROBLEMS, AND BY YOUR TELLING MARK THAT YOU ARE HIS "FRIEND", YOU ARE ALSO TELLING HIM (AND US) THAT YOU ACCEPT ANY FAULTS HE MIGHT HAVE AND THAT YOU ARE "THERE FOR HIM"...... THANK YOU DON..... YOU DONE GOOD .......... ......... GENTLY, GENTLY, GENTLY....... WHAT CAN I SAY????? YOU'VE AGAIN SHOWN YOUR CARING FOR YOUR REMARKS TO MARK AND TO ROBBIE.... QUOTE, "DON'T PUT ANY EXTRA PRESSURE ON YOURSELF" UNQUOTE ...... YOU'RE RIGHT, WE DON'T NEED TO BEAT OURSELVES UP, THERE'S PLENTY OF THINGS OUT THERE PROVIDING THE PRESSURE WITHOUT US DOING IT...... GENTLY, I ESPECALLY LIKE YOUR COMMENT TO ROBBIE AND RAY, "BROTHERS FOREVER"...... THOUGH SHORT AND SIMPLE, IT SAYS A LOT....... RAY AND ROBBIE, AND BRUNO AND BERNIE, AND MANY OTHERS, DO HAVE A SPECIAL CONNECTION IN THAT THEY FLEW TOGETHER FOR SO LONG AND TRUSTED, AND TOOK CARE OF EACH OTHER.... I'M PROUD THAT THEY HAVE CARRIED THAT BOND FORWARD TO "NOW"..... THOUGH MANY OF US DO NOT HAVE THAT "ONE" PERSON THAT WE SHARE WITH, WE DO HAVE A LOT OF "BROTHERS" AND HAVE THAT SAME BOND OF TRUSTING EACH OTHER WITH OUR LIVES...... I THINK OF MANY, MANY MEN THAT I TRUSTED MY LIFE WITH....... JUST LIKE RAY AND ROBBIE, AND BRUNO AND BERNIE, WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT..... WE HAVE ALL WENT OUT IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS, BUT WE STILL HAVE A BOND....... AND EVEN THOSE THAT I DID NOT FLY WITH, I STILL HAVE A BOND OF KNOWING WHAT WE WENT THRU..... DURING AND AFTER..... AND I ALSO HAVE DEVELOPED A BOND WITH YOU, GENTLY, EVEN THOUGH I'VE NEVER MET YOU....... YOU ARE A SPECIAL SENSITIVE PERSON...... THE KIND OF PERSON THAT I WANT TO CALL A FRIEND........ GENTLY, I THANK YOU FOR THE CARING YOU'VE SHOWN TO ALL OF US ........ ............. .............. ........ FRED ALVIS....... AGAIN, I'VE NEVER MET YOU, BUT YOU ARE SHOWING THAT YOU ARE A "BROTHER" BY TELLING MARK AND THE REST OF US THAT WE'RE NOT ALL ALONE OUT HERE..... AT TIMES PAST, I HAVE BEEN A LITTLE WORRIED THAT YOU MIGHT "EXPLODE" ON ME IF I SAID THE WRONG THING TO YOU, AND THAT I HAVE TO BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL ON WHAT I SAY TO YOU..... GOOD!!!! ...... I SHOULD BE CAREFUL ABOUT WHAT I SAY.... YOUR FEELINGS ARE IMPORTANT AND I SHOULD TRY TO BE AS SENSITIVE AS YOU ARE. YOU AND ALL THOSE THAT SERVED IN VIETNAM, NOT JUST IN THE 129TH, DESERVE RESPECT THAT I FEEL WASN'T GIVEN TO US AS A GROUP...... I DO APPRECIATE THE STORIES YOU WRITE, AND THE WAY YOU PUT THINGS INTO WORDS IS A BLESSING..... YOU'VE BROUGHT OUT FEELINGS THAT MANY OF US HAVE SUPPRESSED....... I WISH YOU WOULD CONSIDER PUTTING SOME OF YOUR STORIES IN MARKS "STORIES" SECTION ALONG WITH THE OTHERS..... I ESPECIALLY LIKE MASSENCUPS (CUPS) STORIES ALONG WITH THE OTHERS...... THANK YOU VERY MUCH FRED ALVIS..... ........... .......... .......... TO ALL (I CAN'T POSSIBLY NAME YOU ALL) THAT HAVE MADE SUPPORTING COMMENTS TO MARK, ROBBIE, ALEX, DON, AND ALL THE OTHERS DURING TIMES OF NEED........... THIS IS WHAT WE NEED AND WHAT BRINGS US ALL TOGETHER....... I HOPE MARK SEES THAT HE IS LOVED AND APPRECIATED FOR ALL HE'S DONE..... I'VE SAID BEFORE THAT I BELIEVE/FEEL MARK HAS DONE AS MUCH FOR US AS ANY OF OUR OWN FAMILY COULD, BY GIVING US THIS SITE AND A PLACE WHERE WE CAN COME TOGETHER WITH OUR FEELINGS AND KNOW THAT THERE'S OTHERS OUT THERE THAT HAVE SOME OF THOSE SAME FEELINGS......... AND IF THEY DON'T HAVE THOSE SAME FEELINGS, AT LEAST THEY UNDERSTAND WHY WE DO......... ............. .................... .................. AND TO ONE OF YOU IN PARTICULAR OUT THERE.... I HAVE SAID THAT I WANT YOU TO BE "MY BROTHER"..... I STILL WANT THAT, AND HOPEFULLY YOU UNDERSTAND WHY...... WE DON'T HAVE TO AGREE IF THAT'S YOUR FEELINGS. I KNOW WE'VE HAD DIFFERENT LIVES AND HAVE DIFFERENT OPINIONS.... YOU MAY BE STRONGER THAN I AND NOT NEED THE SUPPORT, BUT PLEASE ACCEPT THAT, I, AND PERHAPS SOME OF THE OTHERS, DO NEED AND WANT YOU TO BE A PART OF OUR "SUPPORT SYSTEM"..... YOU HAVE A LOT TO GIVE, AND I WISH YOU WOULD RESPECTFULLY SHARE WITH ALL OF US....... IF YOU DON'T WANT TO COME BACK TO MARKS WEB SITE, THEN PLEASE E-MAIL ME AND GIVE ME SOME OF THE SUPPORT I NEED...... WE DON'T HAVE TO BE "FRIENDS" IF YOU CHOSE, BUT I DO RESPECT WHAT YOU HAVE DONE IN THE 129TH AND TRULY HOPE THAT YOU HAVE A GOOD, HEALTHY, AND HAPPY LIFE........ ........... ............. ............. ........... MARK, AND ALL OF MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS, THANK YOU.... I FEEL BLESSED TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH SUCH WONDERFUL PEOPLE....... ccbloom@llion.org KTF,

Hello to everyone. I have been out-of-townmost of the summer, helping to get my elderly parents re-settled into a retirement community. Jim Westwang- Thanks so much for sending me the rock rememberance from the reunion. I sent you a note yesterday- I really appreciate your time and effort in getting it to me. Also- thanks to you, Robbie, for your creativity and geneoristy of time and love in creating these wonderfully artistic peices! In going through some pictures, etc. in the last few days, I came across a letter written to me in May 1972 by CWO 2 Thomas A Leitz. I looked him up on the web contact list and he is not listed. He wrote me a wonderful long letter after Claud's death. I would like to know what happened to him and if he knows about the 129th website. His permanent address was in N.Y. as indicated in his letter. Do any of you remember him and know his current whereabouts? Thanks, Diane

Thank you Mark for the letter. Was great finding the 129th website. Was the crewchief on 865 with the 129th from Sept 72 to March 73. Stayed in the Army, in aviation, until retirement in 1992. Retired as a 1SG. Moved to Idaho and worked in a paper mill for 8 years until I had an accident and now I am in retirement. After my 2 oldest daughters and families moved away we decided to move to Clovis, NM where my wife's mom and dad live so our youngest daughter (and wife) could be closer to them. We found a house a block away which was really nice. Well anyway Hello to all of you in the 129th. God, Country, Honor.

Hello Flight. Been awhile since i've posted. I finally got my picture window installed in my front porch and the sheet metal and siding put back around it. I now only have one major piece of drywall to put on the inside and can then start on the ceiling. I lost a good friend to lung cancer this week. I used to rent an apartment from this woman and ran her kids everywhere in the mid to late 70's. I always stopped in to see how the kids were doing and watched them grow into men and women and have kids of their own. Her son died 2 years ago when having a stomach reduction, and the girls wanted me to be a Pall Bearer at the funeral. It was real hard to say good bye to her. When I got home I had an email from my brother saying his blood tests had come back and his cancer has spread to his liver. The tears came to my eyes again and I was furious because they never had him go to Chemotherapy after his operation to remove a tumor from his colon. The doctor told him they have a 40% chance of getting it. I guess i don't have much faith at this point. Mark, as Don Miller put it and probably so many others will agree that you have done more to reunite all of us than you know. If I hadn't found your site when I was browsing one day, I would still be a lost helicopter soul out there. Don't beat yourself up so. Ray, how are you doing Brother? Hope everyone else is well..........Rob

Mark, let me tell you a little story .......... a long time ago, in a land far away, I was lucky enough to be in the company of a bunch of wild and crazy guys that had a job to do. each and every one of them had something to do that they did to the best of their abilities, some stayed at home most of the time doing their job but others their jobs took them away from the "nest" and put them in greater danger. but they never flinched, they all did what was nessisary to keep things running. sometimes the stay at home types worked close enough with the "flighty" ones to make friends with them. I did make friends with a few of the "flighty" types but sadly some of them didn't make it back to the nest. I felt a great deal of sorrow each time the nest emptied out some. the worst one for me was Sept 12, 1969 ........... Larry and I were not great friends but the friendship we did have meant a lot to me. I thought about Larry quite a lot after I came home. and then one day as I was surfing the net I found this site. to my delight I discovered it had been started by the brother of the wild and crazy "flighty" type that I had once called "friend". then I got to meet this other wild and crazy guy that thought enough about his brother to create this site. he was wilder, crazier, and just as friendly and willing to help as his brother that was lost to us. so to make a long story short (I know it's too late now) do what you can, when you can, and don't worry about being "slow". I'm a little "slow" with mine too. but mostly don't bad mouth Mark Jackson he is my brother and my friend and I will not stand for you putting him down. take it easy on him he has done great things for the 129th. Later, Don

Whoever does not have the stomach for this fight, let him depart. Give him money to speed his departure since we wish not to die in that mans company. Whoever lives past today and comes home safely will rouse himself every year on this day, show his neighbor his scars, and tell embellished stories of all their great feats of battle. These stories he will teach his son and from this day untill the end of the world we shall be remembered. We few, we happy few,we band of brothers; for whoever has shed his blood with me shall be my brother. And those men afraid to go will think themselves lesser men as they hear of how we fought and died together.....you have just read part of Shakespeare's "Henry V. This is the first time reading him, that it hit home.Is this where "band of brothers" comes from?

Ray, I got the package you sent me today. thank you for the pins they are beautiful. although Donna may not get hers I like it too. ( just kidding ) she already has it. does anyone know a way to wake up the people that make the dicisions at the V.A. ? it seems they acknowledge that I was hurt while in the national guard but can see no connection to my problem now. gee I wonder why they gave me a "dicharged for medical reasons" separation. they really don't give up on making it hard to make a V.A. claim do they ? oh well I guess I'll just have to get ALL my paperwork together AGAIN and send it to the DAV. those people really work for you. OK I vented my aggrivation about the VA so I feel better LOL. Y'all have a great time. wish I could be there .......... someday,,,,,,,,, Later, Don

Rick, not meaning to drag this out, but it took place about 5 klicks North of QL19 and about 5 klicks East of the river that ran down Happy Valley. At least that's correct if my memory and map reading skills are any good. It's funny how vivid that event remains in my mind, it might have something to do with the fact that the Battalion Commander reamed the CO's ass after he overheard us in the messhall talking about dropping poorman's napalm in there a couple of days later after that fun activity had been outlawed my the 1st Avn Bde Cdr. Rick, the "Contact" list has my current email address. About Lt Hammond, yes he was shot through both legs(thighs) in Apr'69. Now that was a hell of a day, 2 pilots wounded, 2 crew chiefs/gunners wounded and a lot of skicks shot up. I've never heard anything about Hammond after he was evacted back home and no one I've communicated with has heard anything of him. Hope life has been good to him.

Yes Rick, we will be rating people and outfits on a scale of 1-10 again this year, starting with our own campsite personnel. I suspect a low score for F and G if they dress alike again this year. They must plan their wardrobe at least two months before Kokomo, and as you can see by the posts, they are already sharing such information. Mark, Dee, and Ron Paye will show up in their tantalizing leathers, but F and G....who knows. It's always a surprise...except for the Cobra sunglasses:>))) But keep in mind Rick, that it can get pretty hot in Kokomo, so you might want to leave those Arizona red long-johns at home:>) I suspect we will have turkey on the grill again...so contributions from the food chain will be happily accepted(no road kill this year, please, Fred). Joe will be with us, so there is that much more food that needs to be contibuted. Kal? You in? Huggin' ya all-Gently

almost 68 billion is the requested VA budget this year,a 4% increase.Flight, lets hope it is approved. They want to drop the co-pay from our very poor veterans and increase it on our "well to do" veterans.Dont know where folks like me will fit in.( I am neither). This looks like a good idea at first glance but i kinda have an issue with it.I am all for supporting our poorer veterans, period. The well off veterans earned this benifit as well.Pow's are also slated to have their co-pay ended.I think those poor guys should get ever break they can get, who knows what monsters lurk inside their minds and dreams.Yes, I know that with limited budgits, those that can pay, should, but it just doesnt seem fair. By the way, I am reading a book by the author of "chicken hawk". Its titled "chicken hawk, life after vietnam". The author flew in many areas we once flew in. He was there in 65/66. He mentions plei Khu, an kha, happy valley, I drang valley, bong son and others. am about 1/2 way thru it,is good reading so far. can anyone say, ptsd

Alvis, you might want to check for a virus, that is the way mine started. Larry, when I put a pic on my web page it is 2" wide I don't worry too much about how tall it is, but I try to keep it kind of in the 2X3 size. the only thing about bigger pic's is it takes so long to load the page sometimes it will time out. if I get a pic that is say .... 4X6 or 5X7 that gives me enough quality to work with it. 8X10 is a little large but still useable (download time wise) but I had one person send me a pic that was 14X20 it took about half hour to download. that one was a pic of my GG grandfather it could have taken 2 days to download and I wouldn't have cared LOL. Thanks again for the pic's ........ I might get them all yet. Later, Don

Ok my friends, I need some help. There are a group of 11 Hmong from St. Paul, MN walking to Washington D.C. The Hmong, for those of you who do not know, fought the "secret War" in Laos for the CIA during the Vietnam War, and killed thousands of NVA which saved many American lives, plus they rescued our pilots before they could be captured by the NVA and Pathet Lao when they were shot down in Laos. When the war ended in '75 and the CIA pulled out, thousands more were killed by the communists while some escaped to Thailand. Over the years many have migrated to the U.S. and other countries. Those who are still in Laos are being hunted down and killed with the intent being to wipe out them out. These 11 are walking across America to raise the American consciousness of this murdering). They are presently 4-5 miles out of Lima on 309. They need a yard to sleep in tonight and some handshakes(hugs if you'd like) from some Vietnam Veterans. Perhaps we can help them all the way to D.C. I'm planning on joining them August 20th for the last six days of the walk. It's called the "long walk for freedom" and they have a website with the same name. The contact person in the group is Zong and his cell number is 651-470-6327. I've just spoken with him and they will stop walking tonight at 6. If any of you can help them, and get the word to others along their route, please do. A BBQ at someone's home one evening, a hot breakfast, riding your bikes with them, or walking with them will all help them to suceed at this tremendous task of walking hundreds of miles. So, if you have friends, brothers, and/or know of other VVA...VFW...Am. Leg...or whomever along the way please call them and ask them to reach out to these people who gave so much for our Country, and in the end losing their own because of it. They have to be contacted daily for their location, but that gives us time to arrange things for them. I'm here if you have any questions-and if you want to join me on August 20th, that would be very cool. I know we'll see Ray in D.C.., won't we Ray!? So my hand is out and I'm asking...with hope-Gently

Alvis, that MOH Veteran was Gary Whetzel. He's from Milwaukee. And nice job on the Kokomo description, but if i may, I'd like to add a women's touch:>): Clean and plentiful showers, no dust, indoor toilets, valet parking, enclosed restaurants with ample seating, and most importantly, upscale womens shoe stores. It's the best. Joe and I will be attending again this year---yeah!!! Can't wait! But Gale, not my sister. She's put on about 100 pounds since last year and that has made that mean streak even worse than i described last year! Phew! We stay away from her. Scarey, very scarey! Ann and Sue H---Thinking Kokomo???!!! It's wonderful! By the way-Joe recieved his VVA Vietnam Veteran of the Year 2004 for Wisconsin, and it blew him away! Then I had a surprise "Roast" of him...and it was great! Smiles to all-Gently

Ann, "Kokomo......we'll get there fast And then we'll take it slow". 22nd annual Viet vet reunion held on the 3 weekend of Sept and sponsored by their local vet group. This year is Sept 17th-19th. Kokomo Indiana is located about 1 hour north of LZ Indy on US 31. Ron Paye was telling me about trying to get more space or our own space....how 'bout it Ron? Judith, you gonna make it this year? How 'bout your "sister"? Kal, Rick, hope you can be there. Alvis, you smooth talker...you hit the nail on the head. I can understand how you got Susan to marry you now! :o} By the way, did you get hit by the storm last night after it passed here? Hit pretty hard here. Lot's of limbs down & power was off for 7 hours....still off in areas north of here. I had a very close call with a limb about 6' long & 6" thick. Fell in my driveway just inches in front of me...quite a scare. Thanks "guardian angel". Clear, Gale

You ask a simple question Ann, but a difficult one to answer. On the surface, Kokomo is simply another nam vet's reunion. Its held outdoors,in an old cornfield/ landing strip, outside of kokomo,Indiana.Usually, between 10 and 14 thousand folks turn up, mostly nam vets.Picture 2 or3 rows ,about 1/4 mile long, filled with tents, campers,rv's and all with flags waving in the wind, all with camp fires. Each camp site( usually 3 or 4 next to one another) holds a units members.Folks strole up and down the roads looking for friends and comrads, all the while smileing and full of brotherhood. Its a cross between a 60's concert and an old mountian man rondovue (sp). There is drinking, livemusic, laughter, love, brotherhood, motorcycles, security, smoke, food, flags, patriotism, souveniers, and fun. When I took my wife Susan to last years, she was at first frightend by the look of the place. We found the 129th spot, then went looking for the 129th flag that Mark had given to a friend to bring to us.First place we went was in the middle of a group of bikers( chained eagles)(me, susan, gale and gently).Eyed suspiciously,we marched up to someone, said who we where and what we wanted. After about 30 hugs,we where told, sorry, aint here.Next we went to 173rd airbourne csmpsite and again repeated out request to "spence" , a dear friend of the 129th ahc,and Marks. After about 60 hugs, offers of food and /or sprits,we found the flag. That is a good example of the working of the reunion.Susan stated that she was very surprised, the look of the place is/was very different from the actual "atmopshere".Its an atmosphere of welcoming home. Also there are private ceremonies at each camp site for different things.Ours included a group circle that repeated the names of our fallen that we could remember. In this group were (gale beard, myself, gently, katherine, susan, and please forgive me if I left anyone out).We felt the presence of our fallen,at our sides or saw them in the campfire haze that covered the skies there. Its a tradition that we started there( a private ceremony) and that gale and I continued at L.Z. Indy. There is of course, one heldfor all of our fallen, but this one is very personal.Waht is Kokomo? To me .its a beatuful swan that looks like an ugly duck.

The years maybe passing by fast. But, we all have shared so much since I started the reunions. I hope all whom have attended any 129th Reunion have walked away with some healing and a New found Family. To my surprise this year. I was presented with a plaque for my service to the VHCMA as President for 2002-2003. It was an Honor. But my real reward is seeing My Brothers reuniting after 30 plus years. And having the opportunity of meeting the Women whom have stood beside them all these years. Thank You All!! For attending our 129th reunions. See you S.A. Tx. Alex

Today's mail brought a pkg. from Jim Westwang...the stone in memory of my husband Tom Shaw. I'm struggling with words to express just how deeply moved I am. Robbie Robinson put in a lot of time and effort (and talent) to create something so beautiful and it will always have a place of honor on my desk next to Tom's picture. And reading that Diane is trying to get pictures to me makes me want to just hug her! This site has become my reward at the end of the day. And all because Gently took the time to track me down and get me online and Jim Westwang followed through so generously on a memory. You guys are the greatest!!!!! Gratefully, Ann

First off I need to apoligize to everyone, I let a bad day bother me to much. As I have told Gently and Mark now, I found my uncles flag that day. We thought we had lost it(my grandpa hid it.) I am happy to find it but it just brought up alot of sad feelings. I have not tried hard enough myself. I think part of me is scared to find out what he was like then. I don't know if it is good or bad, his past that is. But I need to know and tell my cousin something about it. I won't leave....but I promise to at leaset keep my head outta my rear. 3 weeks till moving in with grandparents....talk about hectic.

Thanks, Alex. I sent several pictures to Mark today in a JPEG format. Mark- let me know if you get them. If you do and are willing to post them, I have a bunch more, including many photos of people I do not know who were with the 129th between August 1971-April 72. I do not know these members of 129th, but some of you may- or they may be pictures of you. I have also scanned an AP story of the helicopter crash that Claud, Tom, Bernie, and Bruno were in. I would like to post that also- it is a very touching story and one that Ann has probably not seen. I did send a hard copy to Bruno and Bernie last yeart when I found them. Mark= let me know. Hello Bruno and Bernie, and everyone else. It has been awhile since I checked in due to being out of town most of the summer. I having been helping my parents move and sell their home. They are in their 80s, in poor health, etc. I have not had much access to a computer. Hope everyone had a good holiday. I appreciate hearing from Jim W. today. Thanks for thinking of me, Jim. It has been an unseasonably wet and cool summer in Austin and in most of Tx. But we are cranking up now for some really hot weather. Please advise which town the reunion will be in next year. Melody, don't give up ! we have new people coming in here all the time. it only takes one person to be the one that has all the info you want. or at least have enough info to get your foot in the door. when I came in here 3 years? ago there were only 2 or 3 people that I remembered. now there are lots. but like was said in an earlier post you know he was in the 129th so eventually someone will come in that remembers him. but by all means don't give up on the other sites as well. I do genealogy research and I search all over the place. but I don't quit on one because it has been a long time and no word. it only takes one. so hang in there a little longer. besides little sisters are neat to have around. ............... later, Don

Melody, I encourage you to look into other avenues of info on your uncle. However, this is one place that you KNOW he has left foot prints in someones life. It simplys takes time. You are a little "sis" in here to many of us and it would be a shame if you left. Someday, someone will come in here that was friends with him. Look whats happened to a few others that have came in here lately. It will happen for you as well.Go and look around, plant a few seeds, see what happens, but dont shut the door here. You are family.

Melody has just emailed me that she is leaving the site. We have been unable to help her find information on her uncle who served with the 129th, so she is going to look elsewhere. I responded to her, asking her to reconsider, telling that she is now part of the family and belongs here and not to give up on us. I also told her to contact all the new contacts who served in Nam the same time as here uncle. Help me to encourage her to stay- we all need this little sister, who has encouraged us through tough times, contributed to the Christmas fund, and offered us her love. Mel, give the info on your uncle again, please. Don't give up on us-be patient and be here. With my arms around you little sister-Gently

Kerry Chooses J. Christ as VP; Rove Responds Sun Jul 4th, 2004 at 14:14:05 EDT A Bush administration spokesperson responded today to presumed Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry's surprise announcement of Jesus Christ, a carpenter from Nazareth, as his running mate: The spokesperson said: The Democratic Party is offering us a ticket that includes two ultra-liberal politicians out of touch with mainstream American values. We didn't think it was possible, but John Kerry has chosen a running mate even more radical and wild-eyed than himself. Just look at some of the recent statements made by this Jesus Christ character. First, he offers a pathetically weak response to the terrorist threat that hovers over America today. When asked for what he believes we should do, he actually said, "But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on the right cheek, turn to him the other also." Is this the man we want next in line to the position of Commander-in-Chief? A man who not only opposed the removal of Saddam Hussein, but whose ludicrous response to the terrorist threat is to "Love your enemies?" And he has made quite clear his antipathy toward Americans who take pride in their religion. He is adamantly opposed to prayer in schools and at other public functions. His proposals make even the ACLU look like a bunch of moderates: "And when thou prayes, thous shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward." He has literally suggested that religious Americans should be forced into dark closets: "But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly." I mean, not only is he delivering a clearly anti-Christian message, but what kind of liberal fancy-pants northeastern middle-eastern elitist talks like this? The American people are tired of effete out of touch polticians talking down to them with "thy" and "thine," and who is this guy to be talking about thy Father? Does he think he's the messiah? Oh, but there's more, much more. His fantastic pronouncements on economic policy leave one scratching one's head as well. One wonders whether he studied with Professor Karl Marx. He is clearly hostile to the entire capitaist free market system, to the businessmen and women who are the bedrock of this country, and the right of all Americans to make their fortune. Here are just a few of his choice quotes: "If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me." Now sure, nobody has anything against charity, but Mr. Christ makes clear that he considers being wealthy almost sinful. Some of this stuff really sounds almost Communist: "Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God." And sometimes, he seems to be openly engaging in the kind of class warfare that will not resonate with ordinary Americans. "And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted." Heck, he's declared open season on the small businessmen and women who make up the backbone of this great nation. I read you a recent report from the Gospel of St. Matthew, which I need not remind you is itself part and parcel of the liberal media: And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves. And said unto them, "It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves." So honest bankers and merchants are nothing more than thieves, according to Mr. Christ, whose shrill statements and wild-eyed, criminal disruption of these small businesses should on their own be enough to disqualify him from any position of responsibility, much less the vice-presidency. John Kerry has again shown his true colors by choosing this radical long-haired hippie as his running mate. We are confident that the American people will reject this man as out of touch with main-stream American values, and Vice-President Cheney is especially looking forward to the debate so that he might show the radical differences between their views. When asked for a response, a spokesperson for Jesus Christ released the following statement. Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

George...I talk to Bill Pecknold yesterday, he was heading out to Tahoe for two week vacation. He was taking his boat and his wife was taking( trailoring) their all orignal 1969 Z-28 up. Bill is a engineer and designs GPS systems with some high-tech company. Bill stayed in service until 1982 and did a second "tour of duty" in 72-73, down south in Nam somewhere. Bill was in Nam when they ordered the "weapons" to be taken off all U.S. military aircraft(rotary type). Jim Pecknold is now retired with full 100% disability from the Army and happily living a "low-key" lifestyle with his new wife near San Jose. E-mail me and I`ll tell you more.

Two friends, a blonde, and a redhead are walking down the street. They pass a flower shop where the redhead happens to see her boyfriend buying flowers. She sighs and says, "Oh crap, my boyfriend is buying me flowers again." The blonde looks quizzically at her and says, "You don't like getting flowers?" The redhead says, "I love getting flowers but he always has expectations after giving me flowers, and I just don't feel like spending the next three days on my back with my legs in the air." The blonde says, "Don't you have a vase...?"

A college teacher reminds her class of tomorrow's final exam. "Now class, I won't tolerate any excuses for you not being here tomorrow. I might consider a nuclear attack or a serious personal injury or illness, or a death in you r immediate family but that's it, no other excuses whatsoever! A smart-ass guy in the back of the room raised his hand and asks, "What would you say if tomorrow I said I was suffering from complete and utter sexual exhaustion?"The entire class does its Best to stifle their laughter and snickering. When silence is restored, the teacher smiles sympathetically at the student, shakes her head, and sweetly says, " Well, I guess you'd have to write the exam with your other hand.

Ron Paye, I received my ship today. Thanks alot for sending that to me. I was like a little kid putting it together and posing the gunner and crewchief. one of the first things i'm going to do is some repainting and make it a 129th ship. It's a "C" model slick with rocket pods. It's 33 inches long from the tip of the Main rotor to the tiP of the tail rotor. I hope everyone is doing good. Ray, that video of the Pop-A-Top and Mark's house should be there tomorrow......Rob

The ground rushed up towards me, my hopes fell just as fast. Pilots screaming Mayday,Mayday. Thoughts from n20 school rushed and flickered thru my memory. Should I toss the m-60 ammo out, oh shit, the belt is wraped around the mount, cant get it loose, how strange for it to get that way. Cabin insulation is ripped down of the walls, passengers screaming, Mayday, Mayday , repeated the pilot. Peter P screaming..air speed, air speed, get some air speed for gods sake. Trees getting closer, I can make out different branches now. mayday, airspeed,"oh my god" , I hear thru my helmet phones. we fall, we fall, the air is screaming now, strange," just like in the movies" I think. An answer to our mayday, I hear an airforce spotter plane. The 60 ammo is whipping in the air currents, shits flying everywhere. Mayday, Mayday, Mayday.I know I am fixing to die. I accecpt it, after a moments thought. My thoughts turn to my mom, i can see her tears , I can see her crying as the chaplin reads the telegram, I am saddened for my mom.God, the trees are getting close..air speed, airspeed, get some airspeed. Its been a good but short life, i am dying doing what I love, what I chose , flying.I have accepted god ,strange, how he has been so far from my thoughts these past 6 months.he will understand. Mayday, Mayday, out goes the call, the spotter answers, I know my body will be recovered and I am comforted with that thought. Dont know how or why, just dumb luck, air speed picked up, pilot picked up the nose just in time. we are at tree top level, no room to spare. A shadow jumps out from under a tree, he has an ak-47 aimed at me. I hear fire on full automatic, "whos shooting screams the pilot". My god, he has missed us, HE MISSED US, I could have hugged him, for i was still there to be a target. Almost like seeing an old friend, strange, but thats how I thought of him.We recovered and set down at a special forces camp, mac v, still dont know. We shut down the aircraft, all sat on the ground, in the shade for a second, all were still shaking. I started inspecting the ship for holes, my god, there werent any,"he even missed the ship". I smile to myself as i think it. Oh shit, red x for popped anti tourque screws, ships a mess. we catch a flight back with a brothers helicopter, My heart skips a beat everytime we hit an air pocket.A hook comes to sling back our gallent bird. its unflyable.Out over the south china sea they fly.near tuy hoa, a strap breaks, the gallent bird starts to oscalate. They punch her off from thousands of feet. She slowly falls , twist and turns ,to her watery death.she deserved better, she was the hero, she had heart, she saved her crew. Good bye my friend, my lover, my gallent stead. alvis. 71/72 129th ahc, 60th ahc, lane, ninh hoa, rvn.

My lovely step daughter just bought me the movie (cd), "we were soliders".going to take it to the family reunion and let the kids watch it,as well as my Mom, since we lived on fort benning when some of this happened. Please, all have a safe and enjoyable 4th of july weekend.

Alvis, I should have put some instructions on the stickers. Here's what I label them with over here: Stoneface(my DBA)original cut vinyl stickers- apply to most smooth surfaces. Carefully peel white paper backing from image and transfer tape. It helps to bend the paper while peeling. Align and apply to clean dry surface(window, refrigerator, car, stop sign.....)Peel away transfer tape. Smooth sticker from center outward to minimalize bubbles. Whatever you do, don't iron them! Let me know if you have any problems and I'll send another. Greg

Well, 1st of all, i would like to thank the people who put me up & put up with me. Darwin Schmiedt & his wife were wonderful, Then Judith & Joe, what a trip that day & 1/2 or so was & seeing the Wisconsin vets memorial. Kal Bergstrom & I had quite a time in his home town & a very nice town with lots of neat stuff to see. A nice ride to the Pop-A-Top with him & then a mini reunion there & the Jacksons were very gracious in feeding us & putting a number of us up. The Next day, the ride into indy was the limit.Stopping at Larry's Gravesite was almost like going to a shrine, I'm glad I didn't have to do that alone! The reunion was Great. The biggest thing for me was meeting up with Fred Alvis after all those years. Fred, Susan seems wonderful & you may count yourself a lucky man i think. Nice to meet up with Gary Carlson , brother & friend & what a shock to find out that i have been wondering about the deer i killed there & Finding out That Baron was flying Peter P, Cpt Baxter AC & it took all of us to load that thing except the AC who was left alone running the ship while we did it. Shadow, was great staying with you again. the comaraderie of all. Thet presentation in the Shadow of the Blade was wonderful. Thanks to Ron Paye again for the Barbecue, the good times, & the Limo which Gale & Debbie Beard, Jim & Sue Hydinger called me in the am & we all went to town & finished seeing the other end of the memorial Plaza. I have never seen such memorials as Indiana has put up. Havn't been to Washington dc. Thanks to Robbie for doing the Rocks, I have contacted Ann Shaw & will Mail hers. Somehow, i have lost the address of Diane Strother Moy & if someone has it , please send it to me. Animal, your work on that stone tablet is beautiful & yes, it would be great for me to meet you once again. I remember a little while after i found this site how my hand were shaking when i called you in Hawaii. You were the 1st person i actually talked to from our unit since nam. I have mailed some pics to Mark, & Darwin & will continue with others but it will take some time. If I forget someone or you want some pictures, let me know. I took 145 photos & most all are good quality & will e-mail well. It has been quite an oddessy for me & i will never forget it..>> My Thanks>> My deepest respects>> Smitty

It was great to see our Brothers and Sisters have a wonderful time in Indy. It's always an Honor to see everyone at the reunions. My reward is seeing Brothers reunite after 30 plus years. I hope when our 1st timers leave. They walk away with some healing and a new found family of the 129th. And A Huge Welcome Home to All our Brothers and Sisters of LZ Indy. Glad all made it home safely. Now it's time to look ahead to LZ San Antonio, Tx. I along with Tom Pedersen and the Help of Mark Jackson have reunion info posted. Together we will try to increase our numbers for San Antonio. As one Brother stated to me. 20.00 a week he puts back, starting on his return home. I thought that was a great idea. Have a safe July 4th. Alex & Liz
