SCAM ALERT!!!!!I have been advised by several vets in the Coachella Valley [SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA] of a person identifying himself as "Tim" from the VA who calls to update personal data for the vet's claims file. The caller then asks the vet to give address, phone # and (and this is really fishy) SSN. This is obviously not a standard VA practice, the caller is most likely bogus and a scam artist and clients should be cautioned about providing any sensitive data over the phone. Also, has anyone heard from Greg Marshall lately? My email to him keeps getting returned and I need to talk to him.

Lou Rags, Hang in there with the CLL. I wonder if that's one of the results of agent orange exposure. Alvis and Susan; good luck with the last of your Chemo treatments. My dad is finally recovering from a broken hip, but his PSA has shot up again from his Prostate cancer. At 84 we're wondering if chemo again is worth the side affects. I am probably going to Dallas/Ft.Worth again in Sept. if anyone will be in that area, please let me know. Best wishes, Greg

Hi Flight, sorry I haven't posted in awhile. Been kinda busy with work and My Brother and sister-in-law were up last week. He seems to be doing very well after all of his Chemo treatments and the final freezing of the tumor in his liver. He's going to have another colonoscopy soon to see if everything is still ok. So Lou Rags, hang in there, Brother there are some miracles happening. Fred A. I read the past logs and I hope that Susan is doing ok and more prayers at ya. Bill I sent you an email asking for one of the dvd's from the reunion if you still have one. Missed the reunion and it would be nice to see it in pictures. I hope the rest of the flight is doing well. Oh, congrats to Alex and Liz. I have a Manhattan in your honor tonight. Rob

Fred, this is for you and Susan this time ...........................but aplies to all of you.............................. Philippians 1:3-11 3. I thank my God every time I remember you. 4. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy 5. because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, 6. being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. 7. It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart; for whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God's grace with me. 8. God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus. 9. And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10. so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, 11. filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God...............always a brother

well flight, friday (at 6 am) is another big day,Susan goes under the knife again.A few days after that,we shoulkd hear whether the chemo worked or not.If it did, then radiation 5 times a week for 6 weeks and its finished( hopefully). Susans hair is starting to grow back..I call her fuzzy now.She is happy cause the eyelashes and brows are returning. Most of the side-effects have dissappeared with the exception of the "burnt" feet and nerves there-in. Still very painful to walk. We hope to find out if this is going to be a life long thing now, when we talk to the doc friday during post op.Chuckle, her hair is only a bit longer than fuzz...but women being women..she has already dyed it to cover the greatly increased gray hairs. She still has to wear the scarf but it will soon be laid aside for the hair brush.I can hear it now...roll up the window you buggar..its blowing my hair... dont kiss me,you will mess up my hair...chuckle, be good to hear those sounds again. So friends( I am going to be a bit selfish here),those of you that pray, please say one for my lovely wife and those that dont, please cross your fingers for her.Thank you for all the great support. Its meant heaps to me..and brought tears to Susan's eyes.I debated with myself wheather to take you folks,my friends,on this painful, scary, lonely ,sometimes dark, journey with us. I suppose I truely had many reasons. One is..Susan had me to turn to in times of distress ect,I had no-one,I chose you friends here.I also thought it important for you folks to know the danger of this type of cancer, hell, any cancer, and to try to get it across the importance of exams. In those lonly dark days when Susan was crawling to the bathroom to vomit, crap ,or both,it was scary. It helped to get my feeling out here.As i said, I had nowhere else to turn.I also believe that to see ,or be kept abreast of this type of journey, tells us of the courage many,so damn many, people face.the treatments are fairly unknown,we dont want to know,I suppose,or are afriad to ask.The emotional and finacial cost are staggering.Watching Susan having to pick and choose which drugs we could buy this or that week just tore my heart out.It was one of the most humbling things, and angry things,i have ever had to face. For a time,we thought we might have to give up the house,it was that bad.I gladly would have tho,if it meant Susan could feel better or her chances would improve.Happly,we didnt have to and now are on way back (bucks wise).Friends,if you dont have health insurance, get it.One chemo is 8,000 dollars and they roll around every 2 weeks for 8 weeks then every 3 weeks for 12 weeks.8 in all.anti-nausea pills...10 (ten)cost 800 (eighthundred) dollars,,. there are 6 to 10 more scripts also, but they are just regular pocket rippers. So,get insurance, luckly,I had it.So, one more big worry to go,then i can get off my soapbox.folks.flight,friends,thanks for being here for me,for us.is that a light at the end of the tunnel?

Alex and Liz, happy anniversary. no thanks Alex, why don't you come out this way .... it would be nice to have a gray shirt that knows how to run things and also knows the diff between a spark plug and a glow plug. the air conditioning has been out for about 2 weeks so far and no idea when it will be fixed. it is around 90 in the store with 50% humidity. which I guess is better than the 102-106 outside with 50% humidity. Vegetable oil and Jane Fonda ......that would have been fun at once upon a time. She`s had one too many "nips and tucks" that she don`t even look the same. When I`m dead, I want people to look into that coffin and say, "Damn, Fred looks like hell, he must have lived life to the max".......

Well my computer bit the dust early this month. I am on one at the library. Don't have time to get on and check mail so those who have e-mailed me I should be back on at home in a few weeks. We had to go out of town this past weekend. Were going out of town again this next monday. Were going to pass by the Vietnam Veterans Chapel up there by Taos, NM. I hear that its a nice place. Yeah, Kokomo is Kool!!!!.been talkin' on the land line to a couple of Larry's closest friends from Nam that are in the VA systems now. I tracked them down even befor we had a web site. They don't get on the computer at all but you may recall their names. Those of you who were at that time frame. 68/69,69/70. Billy Perri from Utah and Elmer Holthaus from Kansas. Billy was known as "RAT" over there. Elmer is the one that took a round through the cheek while setting in the hootch drinking beer. Someone clear their riffle outside the barracks and the round ended up going through Elmers cheekas he was taking a swallow. Big Red headed farm boy.Billy was engine maintenance and elmer was a DG. They went TDY after Larry's crash ever to An Khe and Pleiku for 2 or 3 weeks. took a 6X. They recall sleeping of fuel platters and pcp and were at a lot of firebases along the way. They recall incoming and outgoing sheels all the time but they cain't for the life of them recall their trip back to Lane. It was Billy Perri, Elemer Holthuas, Roger Austin, and Jim Grahmm. Does anybody recall anything like that???? They need some comformation for disability status. Also....they ask me who came home with Larry's body to the states? I dont recall anybody there but could have been. Such as you guys, I blocked that time out of my life until about 10 years ago. Billy seems to think that Elmer came home with Larry. Was it customary to have a soldier from the unit always accompany the body?.............any answers or thoughts on this would be of help to the guys..................................alwaysa brother............

Bill,Gently was having a spot of fun....the reunion is in kokomo Indiana.regular attendies from the 129th are Kal,Gale,Mark,Alvis,Ron Payne,Elizabeth( and spouses), ( first met Rick england there) and usually one or two other brothers show up.As far as I know,we are the only flight unit that shows up.Its open to all nam vets and the general plubic. Its held in an old cornfield/ airstrip out in the country. The conditions are primitive ( tents, campfires, outdoor plumbing, ect).I believe the cost to get in is 10 bucks for the weekend. Its held from friday thru sunday tho many show up a week early in RVs.Its their only units reunion.many come from far away States.Harleys and other bikes are allowed in camp sites and many are present. The first year I took Susan ,she was under a high anxiety level..thinking it was a bikerfest. She soon learned that brotherhood was the most common level of social undersdtanding and was soon very comfy walking by herself or with other gals from our camps site.

So I was told to run the store until further noticed. Don Miller you know how that goes. Had 66 hours in last week. And another 60 this week. Appreicate all whom attended the reunion. It was so nice to spend quality time with our 129th Family. We had a good raffle of items and raised some good money for our Christmas Fund. I hope our 1st time attendees had a great time. Missed our other Brothers and sisters whom have attended other reunions. Still fighting the foot and knee problems. It's rough getting younger LOL. Alvis hope Susan is doing ok!! And she had a great time at the reunion Robbie good hearing about your grand kids. Take care. Alex PS Thanks to Bill and Kat for the DVD's.

Hi fellow 129thers. I have been reading about the reunion you had in Texas. I would also like to make the reunion in Phoenix, Az next year. My Grand-daughter lives in Phoenix. I served with the 129th Jan 3,1966 to Jan 4, 1967. I was in the Security Platoon. I wanted to see if anyone had come back with blisters on their hands and feet. They were in a cluster. The color of the blisters was orange and had the shape of an eye at the top of it. My hands and feet were always peeling. The reason why I want to known is because my daugter had the same blister on her foot at six months old and again when she was about twenty. I do not know if this has anything to do with agent orange, but if anyone knows please e-mail me, thank you. I have not had any experinces with the blisters in over 33 years. I believe the reason I do not get them anymore is because I started taking large amounts of vitamin C.

I recently purchased a limited edition pictorial chronology of the 3-506 Vietnam odyssey that covers from 1967 to 1971. I purchased the book called the Stand Alone Battalion from Jerald W. Berry who was in the unit at LZ Betty when I was there with the 192nd AHC. On page 58 of his book is a photo of a 129th slick making a ash and trash drop for a Currahee platoon in April of 1970. Jerry has over 2,000 photos and is looking for more photos of the 129th.

I started out with the 655th trans. Co. after about 3-4 months the unit was absorbed by the 351st AVN Co. I was in maint. and worked on CH-34 helicopters. ( the marine corp. used a lot of them in Nam ) there was a lot of difference between them and the Huey the 34 had a 9 cylinder radial engine mounted backwards in the nose at about a 50-55 degree angle. it was quite a bird. the exaust pipe was about 8 inches in diameter. and boy was it loud. my last flight was in one that had an oil leak that leaked about 1 gallon of oil per hour of flight. we had a 2 hour flight so we landed in field half way home and added oil. it sure ticked the German farmer off. he stood there and shook his fist and yelled at us all the time we were on the ground. so when we were done we just smiled, waved back at him, and took off. it was great. I haven't seen a bio in a while but I guess we are still posting them so here is mine. I was born 22 July 49 in Florence AZ. ( five miles from where I live now ) I went to school in Tucson thru 6th grade then moved back to this area and graduated from Coolidge High the 1st of June 1967. the 5th of June 67 I was in Ft. Bliss Texas for basic. then I went to Ft.Eustis for training and got lucky and was sent to Germany for 14 months. after having fun with the freuleins and beer. someone thought it would be a great idea for me to cross the other ocean.after my month of leave I was sent to the 129th AHC. when I came home in March 1970 I ETS'd and bounced from job to job got married ... divorced ... then thought it would be a good idea to go to Colorado to go to school. (it was) that was where I met this crazy but cute redhead. we got married and had 2 munchkins. I still bounced from job to job because I couldn't find one that I could use my schooling for. when we moved back to AZ. in 85 I joind the AZ national guard and got a federal job useing my schooling. I was the state armorer for 11 1/2 years till I got hurt in the guard and they retired me for medical reasons. I stayed retired for about 2 1/2 years and went to work for Autozone .......... that was 6 years ago. so there you have it in a nutshell. Later, Don

Incase you have not receive one yet, If you get an email from ( webmaster@129th.net ) that starts out with "Dear 129th Member," and ends in with "The 129th Support Team", do not open the attachment. I am sure it is a virus. I have been getting a lot of bounced messages because whomever is doing it is just picking average names like David and Mark and sending emails to those accounts on your domain. Of course, my name is common so you will likely get one, it only infects PC's. Not Mac's. Wish I would of stayed on a Mac now............................always a brother..........

"Siagon",was the reply. We talked a few more moments and they ask what I did over there and where I was at.I ststed the location, then the job.Unlike the young folks here, they knew...what that simple phrase meant... door gunner on a helicopter.( I believe we helicopter crews left a very deep impression on the viets). She says..."you shot at my peoples"."Yes",I answered.and they were shooting at me. chuckle, it was kinda funny to me,one of those "you had to be there" things.I should have ask her if that was her sister and offered 20 bucks for her or said "Hey, maybe I killed your grandfather".

I only took it because VA didn't have Crestor. I will buy it from now on (ha). Thats what I get for trying to save a little money by using VA. Isn't it ironic, Bush billed himself as the best person to run the country, due to his expertise in the oil business, along with his contacts with the mid eastern oil cartel...thanks for NOTHING!!!..Fred, last time I was in New York, I stayed at the Cornell club, on 1st ave. It was interesting to see the changes in 42nd street, no more sex shops. All kinds of homeless though, money people stepping over them to get into the Broadway shows, they never looked down, homeless never looked up. Limo's triple parked, drivers standing alongside, just in case they got rousted. Quite a sight.

Flight, Howzit? I don't think gas here will ever drop below $2.00 again. It's $2.60 on my side of the island, and .20 more on the Kona side. Did you know that the guy Diesel (who invented the engine in the early 1900's) developed it to run on vegetable oil? They only converted to petrolium diesel fuel when it was cheap and plentiful. Whats more interesting is that any Diesel engine can easily be converted to run on vegetable oil or "biodiesel". Imagine all our trains, trucks, etc being powered by Nebraska corn. The only problem I can forsee is if the midwestern farmers formed a cartel and started jacking up the prices. We would have no choice but to invade and occupy the heartland. (watch out for those farmers daughters) LOL.......................with respect, Greg

Kim has a girl-friend that she worked with in Europe, that lives there. Talk about "old hippies",they are everywhere in the village. But I really enjoy "the village" and it`s "artsy crowd". Now that the reunion is over, it's time to kick back and think about the great time(s) we had. Though I am not quite ready for a "full blown" reunion, I had a wonderful time with the great visitors that stopped by on their way to San Antonio..... Jean and I had a great time visiting with Dee, Mark, and Kal...... I don't know how it could have been better...... Wonderful comraderie and we talked about anything and everything...... Jean and I enjoyed sharing our beautiful ozarks with them, and though I can't speak for them, i truly believe they enjoyed the beautiful view off the bluff...... (i doubt they will admit the scare of driving off into the woods, but that's what jeeps are for...) (chuckle, chuckle) I sincerely want to thank them for allowing me to be a little part of their trip...... The wonderful pictures that i've received from Ray, Fred Alvis, and Bill Wolf are great...... I don't know where Bill has been hiding, but he's came out as one of the movers and shakers of the 129th...... It's really great how much caring is shown...... BILL, I received the DVD today, THANK YOU. it is AWESOME. it was great seeing the pic's of guys I knew while I was in the unit. the only thing wrong that my wife saw was that there were no pic's of me on it LOL. I told her that there were only about a dozen pic's of me over there that I knew about and they were taken with my camera. thanks again it brought back some good memories. I could be wrong but the way I remember things Hamberger hill took place over a 10 day period 10 may - 20 may 1969 and it seems to me that 67-17399 was a part of that battle (JEFFREY CHARLES STOWE,KENNETH EUGENE WITMER,JOHN HENRY RALPH BROOKS,and PAUL EDWARD GOONAN JR. lost on 13 may 69.) I know I was in the operations building listening to the radio traffic when 399 went down. I remember it was hot and heavy that day. and I think it was the same day they grabbed about 10 -15 of us up in 2 1/2 tons and we went to the ammo dump to bring down rockets and M-60 ammo because there was none left on the flightline. The Columbus Dispatch Newspaper did a article about him and 173rd back around memorial day. Larry and I would eat at the VFW in Bexley,Ohio when we would work together. Larry and I got in trouble for eating at the VFW, because city employee`s couldn`t eat where alcohol was served. But we proved in a "displinary hearing" that we didn`t drink alcohol, thanks to security cameras. They had us on film eating and talking. Larry "freaked out" when I told him Dak To was nothing more than a "refueling point" in 1970, nothing was there.

had a "FUN" day at the VA today. I saw 4 people in 3 diff. buildings over a 6 hour period. I think I made progress but I am not sure yet. I have an appointment on the 13th and another on the 20th. and have one more to make if I can ever get thru to them. at one place I was told I was the 2nd person from the 129th to come in today I tried to find out who it was but they wouldn't tell me ( I really didn't figure they would but I had to ask) so I told him to give him MY phone # when he saw him again and he said he would. so at this point I don't know if he knows about us in here or if we may have "found" another brother. RAY, I am having a hard time keeping my eyes open right now so I will send you an E-mail tomorrow. Alex, I work 8 - 5 tomorrow. I was looking around on the web and every place I found it lists George Hain as "Non-hostile / crash on land" I did notice we have one member listed as accidental homicide. so why do they have George listed wrong ? so how do we get things squared away so they don't think we are lying to get benifits ? sorry I can't be of help here because I knew George but I came home in March 70. I called Ray because he told me he couldn't remember and didn't see himself or me. I had him put his in and we watched them together and I showed him the picture he was in and a bunch I was in. He said now he can show his wife. But like everyone says, it was well done and my mind jumped back about 35 years or so. Thanks again for taking me back. Frank, although I didn't hear of that incident you were talking about, I think it will happen again if the same situation presents itself. Alex, the Grandkids are great and I took the oldest ones for a motorcycle ride the last time I was down. My Grandson had a smile on the rest of the day. As long as they have us on a one to one basis, they will win.

Don, good luck on your eval, and Lou, I'm sorry to hear that your claim has been denied. I wonder who they say walked into that tail rotor that day? I got pissed off the last time I went to the VA medical center, but didn't write anything about it here. Just keeping it all inside. It will be something like what has happened to Lou or someone else that will cause a normally calm person to go over the edge and do something that they wouldn't normally do. Rob

No Fred I didn't knkow him on heli vets. I am sorry to hear that any of our brothers have died or were killed. I will call popeye. Judith I think Hamburger hill was in the a sha and hill 875 was in Dak To two diffrent units hambruger hill was the 101st airborne and the hill 875 was the 173rd airborne Nov of 67 and hamburger hill was in spring of 69. I might be wrong you might want to check it out. I think the patch thing we should buy from Dan Herlin first then get your patches from this other guy so Dan doesn't get stuck with them. I am out of pins if we want to get more it cost about 600 or 700 I have bought two sets. I I would rather give the money to the fund.???????? We need to support the guys that have put up the money to buy these patches and such first. That is my opinion. Flight be careful out there

Just got back from the VA, I was informed that after all this time of us beleiving that George Hains walked into a tail rotor, we are wrong. According to US Army records, he died in a crash. So now they are dening my claim for PTSD, and that all the letters written were in errror, must have been someone else who looked like george that day. I am about to go basllistic over this, I almost tore the entire office up after hearing this. It seems the VA has found a new way to deny claims, falsifiy records. I filed this claim 2 years ago, It just shows what they think about us

here is an idea for the xmas fund..you know the calenders that one can get made using ones own pictures? How about if we make one using pics from the 129th archives and/or reunions, profits go to the fund? Most of you/us have a war room/wall or what ever. No,its not big bucks but then I have a small mind.

my two cents on the 129th patch sale. first, I agree with all that has been said about it as far as asking permission to sell them and that he probably won't sell so many that he will "get rich" off the sales. next, the sale of 129th stuff is for the support of the "unit members". correct ? last I heard the ship he has was a member of the 129th even if it is a machine not a living breathing unit member. or is it ? it is still flying so I would say it is very much alive so to speak. as for permission to sell the patch ...... Mark said he was the one that told him he could sell it. so it seems to me that he "asked" permission to sell it. and at this point I feel mark has more right to say what goes on than anyone. after all if it was not for Mark we would still be wandering around wondering what happened to our brothers. I for one am very thankful for this site because I have seen brothers again after 30+ years and have met some in person I would not have had it not been for this place. and I am looking forward to seeing more and meeting more brothers AND SISTERS next June in Phoenix. anyway that is my two cents worth ( OK maybe you got a dimes worth.) cross your fingers for me. I am going to the V.A. hospital tomorrow for a PTSD eval. Later Don

Mark, don't ask England Phil to stop selling the patches on my account. I no more own the 129th than I do the third infantry patch, the 197th infantry patch, or any other unit patch I wore while in the service! Last I knew, they kinda belonged to the U.S. Army. Alvis, there was a guy named Phillips who pretty much lived at the Cobra line shack during 71, same same?

.....WOW..seems I owe the 129th a huge apology. It was I that told England Phil that it would be OK to put the 129th patch for sale on his website. I was under the impression that you had been informed of this. Which would have had to come from me. I am deeply sorry, and by no means was my intention to dismeaner the service and time that each and everyone of you, and the fallen have given by putting it for sale..........I will , upon your decision to make every attempt to halt the sale of the 129th patch on Phil's web site if you so desire. I feel terrible about this and will wait to read comments about it. Again I apologise. Hopefully you all know that I love you dearly and would never do anything against your wishes..............................always a brother..................

Hello flight:>) Here is the website of the woman who gave us William Dunlaps's bracelet, which was presented to Mark at the re-union. It's the websire site of her rock and roll band...she like many of us..is an old hippie. She's on key boards at the site: www.dejavuduband.com. I've meet her and she is a trip! Katherine you will be receiving William's bracelet at Kokomo this year, it is what Mark wanted while the museum is being built. I'm looking for more re-union photos, and certainly need some of Williams' bracelet to send to Barb. Glad to hear you're all safe after the 4th. I watched a documentary on Hamburger Hill (Hill 875-Dak To) yesterday and when they were interviewing some of the survivors, they talked about not being able to enjoy Thanksgiving or turkey: the battle for Hamburger Hill ended on Thanksgiving of that year(67)and the survivors(the 173rd) were given a turkey dinner that day.... after loosing many of their friends trying to take a hill that they abandoned shortly after they took it. The war continues. I'm sorry Fred.... L-Gently

My thoughts (not that anyone gives a damn) about English Phil selling our unit patch is a bit like Animal in that I think he should have asked first, and a bit like Bill Wolf in that how much money is he going to actually make off of selling that patch? Not much I think. Glad every one made it back safe from the Reunion, and had a good time....Rob

I guess we can all be thankful that we survived to see another Independance Day!! A slow salute to all who didn't. .....there's a video on the Military.com website, under their shock and awe section titled, UH-60 attack. I think it's really an apache attack, but...whatever! It shows a night tatget being illuminated with a lazer, and being fired up with mini, chain gun, and rockets. I haven't heard a real mini gun in forever. Reminds me of the gun runs, especially at night, when the flame would wrap back over the gun. That visual is indelibly burned into my mind!!!....my thought on the patches; something like a wannabe wearing a Harley t-shirt. Anyone can wear it, I know the real significance of earning it! Something like all the ex service who buy the veteran's license plate. I don't need to advertise, I know where I went, what I did. If I want someone to know, I'll tell em!!!

Flight: Regarding the selling of the patches...it really comes down to this. (1) There are no federal / state laws that would prevent someone from selling 129th patches (and even harder to enforce when its from another country). (2) The only way to prevent it would be to file a federal copyright application and that would be hard because you'd have to show "legal ownership" (not just that we risked our butts for it). (3) To even have a chance of controlling it we'd have to incorporate (501C3) and then have the corporation apply for the copyright. I share the concern about people selling it, but I also kinda feel that I don't see too much potential for someone abusing the use of the patch (probably mostly collectors and 129th'ers) and there really isn't that much money involved and, knowing Paul just the litte I do, I imagine a lot of the proceeds goes towards restoration of the ex-129th helo - which isn't such a bad thing. Just some thoughts from some one with a little legal background (don't kill the messenger!! lol). Bill

Alvis, I think your first reaction our patch/stickers for sale by another has merit. I looked at the UK site and am impressed with the job they've done. It's also OK with me that they sell 129th merchandise to recoup costs.....HOWEVER, they should have asked first. The 129th logo belongs to us and it sets a bad precedent for others to use it without our permission. Getting permission presents it's own problems, as we are such a loosley knit group. I think this underscores the need to incorporate, and set a board of directors to regulate this sort of thing. Part of the by-laws should state that 129th logos etc belong to us and can't be used without permission. With respect, Greg.............PS>>>>Good to see your post Susan.

Our English friend,Phil, now has some products for sale on his web site.Among these items are two that caught my eye.The first is a 129th unit patch, sown on type. The second is a decal/sticker of our patch. My first reaction was of anger/resentment.I thought it over and its Not so now.I do not know how the patterns were acquired, nor is it a matter of great concern to me.My question is ..should we ( I think yes) try and sell our units "trinkets" thru his site for ,and only for,the xmas fund? If so,we need to appoint a buisness manager of some sort to deal with this aspect/side of our colletive experiences/lives/organazation.Why let other folks make money off out backs when we can use this vehicel to help fund/sponser folks, who have hit a speed bump on the road of life,to get to the reunions? I,on first thought, was wrong to be offended.Phil has poured huge sums of money into restoring the 509,its his baby now and he is just proudly trying to fund the thing to keep it flying.Thats my attitude and I plan to keep it till convinced i am wrong. With that being said...you guys please give me your thoughts on this.Go take a look, his site's addy is... huey.co.uk

Hello all. Glad that such a great time was had by all in San Antonio. Also very to hear the bracelets did well and that they were liked. I am not sure if any of you know how to decifer military records or not but I can barely make heads or tails of it. I get the one that list his units and the main records page but there are a few I don't get. If anyone is willing or able to help I can send them to you through e-mail or you can e-mail me(without the spaces of course.) Sometimes I think my uncle might of not even been in Vietnam, I guess he just wasn't in one place an awful long time. I gotta keep plugging at it and try harder. Also I am having a problem finding anything on teh 647th QM co. He was in that for about 6-7 months as a Wh Veh Mach Hlpr(whatever that means) in the petrl op. It might as well be gibberish, partly anyway to me. Any help would mean allot.

FLIGHT: As many of you know, my wife and I have made a committment to help increase attendance at the reunions as well as membership in VHCMA. Our special focus will be on getting "first timers" there (I hope I do half as good as Mark does!). Here's what we've done since the reunion: 1. We've created a very short DVD (1 minute 15 seconds)promo. I am sending it out Tuesday to a number of people to preview as well as to the VHCMA President and Exec. Director (nothing will happen without their final okay). When approved it will be available to anyone to use in promoting next years reunion (I think you'll really like it!!) 2. We are creating a website that will be at www.VietnamHeloReunion.com. The purpose is to really promote and encourage attendance at the next reunion and to join VHCMA. It should be up and running by mid-July. 3. We are beginning production on a longer dvd with interviews, VN footage, pictures, etc for members to show at events and organizations to promote membership and reunion attendance. We also want to be able to send it to non-members to encourage them to attend. 4. Kat and I hope to be of any help in establishing the VHCMA Memorial. To get help with that, we have donated $1,000 in the memory of #257. We will be offering our services to VHCMA in any way that will help. 5. We also want to help Mark establish the 129th AHC Museum. To that end, we are committing another $1,000 when Mark is ready. Mark- we will be contacting you to see how we can help get that going - maybe even seeing if we can get some grant funding to purchase a location and needed construction. Kat and I look forward to meeting our commitment. We obviously can't guarantee that we will accomplish every thing we outlined above, but feel we're already headed well in that direction. Why do we want to do that? We feel like we have found a second family in all of you and we want to be a very useful part of VHCMA and the 129th! We also have children in the military and this is our way of perhaps honoring them. Kat & Bill

AS most lads of that era,I was sorta drifting around, hoping I wouldnt recieve that letter but not really concerned if i did.Shrug, fate will do its damnedest,no matter what I want. Not really caring for the picture in my head of me running around the jungle with all my meals, bedding, weapons, ammo, rain gear, changes of clothes and more, packed on my back,I decided to vist a recruter.Dad,having been a jar head in the pacific in ww2 and army in Korea, ask me not to go to the army recruter. The marienes had,at this time, pulled out of vietnam,so it wasnt mentioned.Straight to the army guys I went,no wrong turns,no doubt in my mind where I wanted to go.Actually,it really started when the recruter ask if I wanted to be a "jet engine machanic".I was hooked,line,sinker,bait.everything.The smile that played across my face is, most likely, still being laughed at.Armed with a 67n20 (helicopter repairman) certificate, and one from door gunner school thrown in as well, off to vietnam I went.Braced with war movies,a young mans courage(ignorance mulitplied by innocence),I arrived .Going thru the FNG course in "social interaction during warfare",I was less than the "Know it all" I was before stepping off the freedom bird.Getting to the 129th,requesting and being granted "flight Status",I HAD arrived.Little did I know the learning curve would make a sharp upward turn,in very little time.Gunsmoke, brass tumbling into the slip stream, frightend but calm voices in the head set, burning trees and brush, explosions, was my first lesson.Damn that was exciting, the adrinaline rush was fantastic,I was invincible,it was fun.Time passed, very boring or extremely, incredably, exciting. Then came the mission where folks fired back.Folks got killed.I had my first shot at a real live human, not just supressing fire.I missed that one,my crew chief didnt.Turned out to be an old, grandmother type.It wasnt such fun anymore.Time pased, lots of folks went home, goodbye parties,short-timmers fly bys,all of a sudden I am one of the "old guys" giving courses to fngs, and advice how to stay alive,as was done me by Smitty and New York Mike, even Alton Page (shadow).Helicopters got wrecked, crashed, and flown over and over with barley enough time for maintance.Had another mission to find a downed aircraft, fixed wing, civilan, out of Quin Hon airport.50 people dead,60? who knows. All ripped apart, burnt, luggage eveywhere,a true scene from Dante's Hell.Damn,it wasnt much fun at all anymore.Waiting, waiting, waiting for friends, room mates, helicopters to finish the days work and return to the flight line.Still waiting,35 years later, wasnt fun at all anymore.Rumors of other friends in different units, crashed and burned.Death stalked avaition units,he and his white, winged horse made us his favioite hunting grounds.Where had the fun gone? The innocence, our youth. It wasnt like the movies,it wasnt like the told us in highschool, such a short time before. Why are my old friends not my old friends anymore?I hope the bitch I loved before I left, now has the clap and spreads it to all her boyfriends.Seems like all my new friends, all of them, are nam vets. Why cant I keep a job,or the same woman ?Why wont people give me a job without asking about drugs in vietnam?Wh yam I having "those" dreams? Why does the 4th of july nights make me get chills, sometimes cry and look for a corner to put my back to?Whys it make me think back to places and times I dont want to return to? Yes, my journey started on that warm dec. georgia day back in 1970.It hasnt ended,I grow tired. Most of the baggage as been left by the wayside, but not all.Social interaction,at times, still leaves me wondering. Please,no crowds not of my chooseing.I am better left alone with my bitter, sometimes brave, memories. With other nam vets,I am not alone. The stupid questions,or downright ignorance, isnt there.Once again I feel the brotherhood of times when it ment so much.I laugh,I remember,I cry. This is just one vets journey over the road we call life.Sadly, its a well troden road by the many,by the brave, the young and the innocent.Dante,in his book, forget this level of hell.

Well, as you all know or don't know I don't post very often but read everyday. I wish I could have been with you at the reunion but have been going through a lot in the past six months. First Rick (husband) has been off work (short term disability which runs out end of July) because of a heart attack and a couple of service related problems. We have filed for VA and Social Security Disability but it is still early in the game. We know that is an up hill battle but we will be patient but persistant. Secondly my daughter had a scare with ovarian cancer. That is fine now they ruled out cancer but still don't know what is causing all her abdominal pain. She is off work also. Things not really going great at work this year either but I know I have to stay where I am because I am the only source of income these days. I knew the reunion was coming up and I really wanted to be there but things just weren't going to happen. I miss all who I have met and not met. Gently, Mark and all who go to KOKOMO know I will be there this year. I hope Mark received William Dunlaps bracelet and will still let me have the joy of wearing it with pride. Michael Shanley looks forward to being reunited with his crew member. I am so glad to hear everyone had a great time. I knew you would. I am really glad that everyone made it home safe and sound. Must go now. As always Welcome home. Always a sister Katharine

Bill, when you or Cat have a moment please send me a CD. And when the "Jar-head" gets shipped out please give us his address so we can drop him a line once in a while-that goes for all of you who have sons/daughters serving today. Please allow us to write them. Lastly, I think at our memorial ceremony at the re-unions it would be appropriate to remember those 129ers who have died since Vietnam. Your thoughts? Thanks for planting the seed Mr. England. Glad everyone is finally home. Always around-Gently
Gently
